Support Trinity Hall postgraduates

The College is committed to supporting our postgraduate students by offering additional funding for those struggling with financial pressures. A large proportion of the College’s postgraduate applicants are sufficiently qualified to meet the University’s exacting standards, but do not have the financial resources to take up that place. It is estimated that every year Trinity Hall loses around 40% of its postgraduate applicants due to a lack of funding.

What is the Christopher Padfield Fund?

Christopher Padfield was an Engineer and a Fellow of the College from 1988-2016, during which time he served for 16 years as Graduate Tutor (1990-2006).  Christopher Padfield helped many postgraduates and engineers during their time at Trinity Hall.  With the blessing of his family, we aim to continue his legacy by raising funds in his memory to support postgraduate students.

Your gift to the Christopher Padfield fund will be used to support postgraduates in a variety of ways:

  • Offering tenth term funding for PhD students
  • Providing part-studentships
  • Providing research grants
  • Enabling academic events within College for the MCR and postdoc communities

“Christopher loved being Graduate Tutor at Trinity Hall.  He found the role deeply rewarding.  He was always very conscious that support at the right moment, whether academic, financial or pastoral, could be crucial in tipping a student’s experience in a positive direction.   He would be so thrilled that this Fund is being launched in his memory”.

The Impact of your Gift

The College’s postgraduate research grant has made it possible to attend the largest international conference in my field, the International Studies Association Conference. Without the grant, I would not have been able to go to San Francisco to present my research. This was crucial for my development as a researcher – presenting at an international conference is an important stepping stone to finding future employment in academia."
